Iolanthe

Thank you for your interest in Iolanthe.

We are returning the Old Savoy, home of the Deco Theatre, with our brand new sparkling production of Iolanthe and we would love to hear from you if you would like to join us on stage in the chorus or as a principal.

We are also holding a come and sing night on Monday 1st September 2025 for anyone interested in joining the group, or to find out about us.

Tickets will go on sale later in the year.

Key Dates

Anyone wishing to join the group must be available to rehearse on Monday Evenings with Friday Evenings set aside for principal rehearsals until we get closer to the show at which point all cast are expected to attend.

Everyone must be available for the following:

W/C 20th April 2026 Costume Collection
24th April Costume Call (all required)
26th April Band Call (all required)
27th April Get In (Tech team only)
28th April Tech and Dress Rehearsal
29th April Opening Night
3rd May Matinee and Evening Performance

Important information you need to know about principal auditions

You will need to complete a General Audition If you weren't in our last production, The Pirates of Penzance before you can audition for a principal role
You need to have paid at least half of your annual subs to be able to audition (this is non-refundable). The current subscriptions are below, along with our bank details.
The audition panel normally consists of four members plus the accompanist:

The Director: Leon Berger
The Musical Director: David Chambers
A member of the committee: Sarah Crask
One independent member, usually an ex member: TBC

You don't need to learn anything to audition
You will be asked to sing and deliver the relevant dialogue for each role you are auditioning for
You may be given additional directions before or during your audition
Don't panic if things go wrong during the audition, we want to see you at your best, so are happy to allow you to re-start!

After the auditions we will normally try to confirm casting within a few days of the audition.

If you are unable to attend on the day, we may be able to accommodate a recording of your audition pieces the week prior. This takes place under the same conditions in the same room to make it fair.

If we are unable to cast a role for any reason, we will organise and additional audition day.

There is no barrier to anyone wishing to audition for the roles, including past auditionees.

Membership Fees

The Northampton Gilbert & Sullivan Group is a registered charity and limited guarantee company and in line with all other singing groups in the county and beyond, we charge a membership fee.

Fees help to pay for insurances, room hire, pianist costs etc. and it is important to note that all members must have fully paid their fees in order to go onstage.

Our Current fees are as follows:

Full Playing Member £120

Student Member £60

Playing Life Member £50
